Why We Named It Seastack: The Meaning Behind Northshore’s New Platform

At Northshore, we take our work seriously, but we also know how to have a little fun. That’s why when it came time to name our new platform, we wanted something that didn’t just sound sharp, but carried real meaning. And yes, we also love a good nautical pun.

So we named it Seastack.

Sure, it sounds like a solid piece of technology (because it is). But the name goes deeper, rooted in symbolism, geology, and the daily challenges we’re solving for our clients.

What Is a sea stack?

In nature, a sea stack is a vertical column of rock left standing in the sea after waves erode the surrounding coastline. It begins as part of a cliff, then forms an arch, and eventually the arch collapses, leaving behind a strong, solitary pillar.

These formations are the result of constant pressure, erosion, and transformation, but they endure. They’re iconic, functional, and built to last. We liked that.

At Northshore, we saw ourselves and our clients in that image.

A Platform That Withstands the Pressure

In the world of digital infrastructure, pressure is rising. Whether it’s new regulatory demands, stricter ESG targets, siloed systems, or rising operational complexity, data center teams are asked to deliver clarity and efficiency in an increasingly unstable environment.

Seastack is our response to that reality.

Just like its namesake, a sea stack stands resilient, giving teams a clear, centralized view of their data, performance, and sustainability goals across the entire lifecycle.

What Seastack Stands For

We appreciate a good name with layers, and Seastack delivers. It’s not just a nod to coastal geology or clever branding, it reflects the four foundational elements that power the platform:

  • Sustainability – Helping organizations reduce energy use, water consumption, and carbon emissions with measurable results.

  • Energy – Optimizing how data centers use and manage power across sites, systems, and partners.

  • Analytics – Turning disconnected data into actionable intelligence through AI-powered dashboards and simulations.

  • Technology Stack – Bringing together asset, utility, telemetry, and design systems into one cohesive, scalable platform.

It’s all built without vendor lock-in, so clients can keep what works and still evolve their stack.

And yes, if you caught that, this platform helps you navigate complexity and stay afloat in a sea of infrastructure challenges. Told you we love a nautical pun.

Built to Last, Built for Change

Seastack is more than just software. It’s the next step in Northshore’s evolution from consulting and commissioning to data and now, intelligent infrastructure platforms. It unifies everything we’ve built so far, and gives our clients a smarter, more sustainable way to move forward.

In a world where tides are shifting fast, Seastack is built to stand tall.
